Project Description

The terrestrial ecosystem baseline studies for the Beetaloo Sub-basin SREBA produced a fine scale vegetation map for the study area, described the biogeographic patterns of flora and fauna in representative vegetation communities and habitat types and surveyed for target significant and sensitive fauna. These studies identified species and habitats of high conservation value, and developed recommendations for future monitoring. These studies were undertaken by the Northern Territory Government Department of Environment Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security, Flora and Fauna Division.

Abstract

Data for threatened species in the Study Area were collected during field surveys of terrestrial fauna and targeted threatened species were undertaken during the GBA project (2020) and the SREBA project (2021-2022). Species distribution models were developed for four threatened species for which there was sufficient data; Crested Shrike-tit (Falcunculus frontatus whitei); Gouldian Finch (Erythrura gouldiae); Greater Bilby (Macrotis lagotis); and Yellow-spotted Monitor (Varanus panoptes). These analyses provide predictions of high quality habitat for these species in the Study Area and informed the assessment of the terrestrial biodiversity values of the Study Area and risks associated with the development of an onshore gas industry.

Additional Information

Two spatial raster datasets are provided for each species:

  • mean predicted probability of occurrence of the species,
  • standard deviation of the predicted probability of occurrence of the species
