Project Description

The terrestrial ecosystem baseline studies for the Beetaloo Sub-basin SREBA produced a fine scale vegetation map for the study area, described the biogeographic patterns of flora and fauna in representative vegetation communities and habitat types and surveyed for target significant and sensitive fauna. These studies identified species and habitats of high conservation value, and developed recommendations for future monitoring. These studies were undertaken by the Northern Territory Government Department of Environment Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security, Flora and Fauna Division.

Abstract

This dataset contains flora survey data collected during the Beetaloo SREBA Terrestrial Ecosystems study in 2021-2022. This dataset includes flora community point data collected during rapid vegetation assessment surveys, and broad vegetation group point data derived from NTG databases. These data were analysed to inform the assessment of terrestrial biodiversity values in the Study Area and risks associated with the development of an onshore gas industry.

SREBA: Beetaloo Strategic Regional and Environmental Baseline Assessment (Beetaloo SREBA) BB: Beetaloo Geological and Bioregional Assessment (Beetaloo GBA) BC: Beetaloo Geological and Bioregional Assessment (Beetaloo GBA) VSD: Site data housed in the NTG Vegetation Site Database
Unique_ID The unique identifier of the site: a concatenation of the data source, the name of the survey associated with the data, and the site code associated with the observation.
DVT Definitive Vegetation Class following the typology of Brocklehurst and Gibbons (2015)
BVG_NUM Categorical data delineating the DVT designation to a broader category relevant for the purpose of 1:100,000 mapping (mappable vegetation unit). BVG_NUM refers to the broad vegetation group number.
BVG_DESC Categorical data delineating the DVT designation to a broader category relevant for the purpose of 1:100,000 mapping (mappable vegetation unit). BVG_DESC refers to the broad vegetation group description.
Train_Val Identifies whether the point was used as for training or validation of the random forest model used to map vegetation across the Study Area.
